Literary Lunches at Kaspar’s Seafood Bar and Grill
We are delighted to announce a series of Literary Lunches taking place at Kaspar’s Seafood Bar and Grill.
The first is taking place with former writer in residence and award-winning author, Michael Morpurgo on Saturday 6th July.
Lunch will begin at 12:30pm , and tickets will be priced at £47 for adults and £29 for children (best suited from eight years of age).
Children can listen to Michael Morpurgo as he reads extracts from Kaspar: Prince of Cats, the book which he wrote during his residency at The Savoy based on the hotel’s most famous feline resident.
Meanwhile, adults can enjoy a three course meal with wine and young guests a two course lunch with a soft drink and goodie bag containing a signed book and chocolate gift.
Guests will also have the opportunity to meet Michael Morpurgo after the lunch, who will welcome questions and sign copies both old and new.
Further family Literary Lunches will include Lauren Child MBE (‘Charlie and Lola’) in the autumn and Judith Kerr (‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’) in December, with further authors to be confirmed. £2 from every ticket sold will go to charity.
Michael Morpurgo comments, “When I first met Kaspar, The Savoy’s most elegant and superior guest, he had pride of place in a glass cabinet outside the American bar. I knew immediately he would be the subject of my novel Kaspar: Prince of Cats. And now Kaspar has gone up in the world, with a stylish new restaurant named after him. I am delighted to be involved with the first of a new series of Literary Lunches at The Savoy’s wonderful new restaurant.”
In Michael’s novel, a beautiful black Russian cat comes to The Savoy with one of the guests, the Countess Kandinsky. But when the Countess suddenly dies, the bell-boy at The Savoy Johnny Trott, looks after Kaspar and hides him from the head housekeeper. Soon, events set in motion take Johnny and Kaspar all around the world, surviving theft, rooftop rescues and shipwreck on the Titanic.
